Accreditation

The Bellevue Fire Department is accredited by the Center for Public Safety Excellence (CPSE). This non-profit 501 (c) 3 organization is a primary resource for the fire and emergency profession to continuously improve services, resulting in a higher quality of life for communities and has successfully helped public safety agencies around the world streamline and improve the services that they provide. Bellevue Fire Department has been accredited since 1998, one of the first in the nation, and one of 3 departments in Washington State to obtain the distinction.

The Bellevue Fire Department was reaccredited in 2013 by the Commission on Fire Accreditation International (CFAI), and has maintained continuous accreditation since 1998.  This requires the department to demonstrate proficiencies in 244 performance indicators, and 77 core competencies.  Accreditation requires extensive preparation, and signifies that the department conforms to the highest professional standards.

The department also maintains a Class 2 rating from the Washington State Survey and Rating Bureau, placing Bellevue in the top 1 percent of the nearly 47,000 rated departments in the U.S. and among the top three departments in the state.
